The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued an urgent alert to over 600,000 UK households, warning that they risk missing out on a crucial £299 Cost of Living Payment if they fail to update their bank details.
Why Are Payments at Risk?
Many recipients of tax credits and other benefits have not informed the DWP of recent changes to their banking information. Without up-to-date details, the government cannot process the payment, leaving vulnerable families without much-needed financial support.
When Is the Deadline?
Households must act quickly—the DWP will start issuing payments from February 6, 2024. Those who do not confirm their details risk delays or even missing out entirely.
Who Is Eligible?
The £299 payment is the third and final instalment of the government's Cost of Living Support package for 2023/24. To qualify, claimants must have been entitled to certain benefits between November 13 and December 12, 2023.
Affected Benefits Include:
- Universal Credit
- Pension Credit
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income Support
- Tax Credits
How to Update Your Details
If you receive tax credits exclusively, you must contact HMRC to update your bank information. For other benefits, notify the DWP immediately via your online account or by phone.
Don’t wait—failure to act could mean losing this essential financial lifeline.
