Magnitude 6.5 Earthquake Strikes Thailand After Borneo Quake

Thailand was hit by a magnitude 6.5 earthquake early on Monday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The quake struck shortly after a magnitude 6.8 tremor hit the island of Borneo, which is shared by Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.

The epicentre of the Thai earthquake has not yet been disclosed, but authorities are monitoring for potential aftershocks. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been confirmed.

The GFZ reported that the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth, which often increases the risk of structural damage. Seismologists continue to analyse the data to assess the full impact.
