Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh has opened up about her transformative health journey, crediting the abandonment of extreme and dangerous dieting for helping her achieve a stable, healthy size.

From Dangerous Diets to a Healthier Mindset

The broadcaster and former Strictly Come Dancing star has spoken candidly about the years she spent trapped in a cycle of fad diets, which she now describes as "detrimental" and "stupid". Singh, 48, told Woman & Home magazine that society's focus on thinness over fitness is deeply damaging.

She recalled one extreme regime where she survived on an aloe vera diet for 21 days, and another occasion where she purchased diet pills over the counter at a beauty salon. "I was really dehydrated and my skin was really bad, but I was thin," she admitted, reflecting on the physical cost of her pursuit of a smaller dress size.

Finding Strength Through Sustainable Habits

Singh explained that her body has naturally settled as a consistent size 10 over the past year, after historically fluctuating between a size 8 and a 12. She attributes this change not to restrictive eating, but to sustainable lifestyle shifts.

"What's happened to my body over the past year is a by-product of plodding on with the gym and eating more mindfully," she said. Her new mantra is clear: "Weight doesn't matter. Being strong does." This philosophical shift came after three decades of using food as an "emotional crutch", a pattern of overeating and under-eating she recognises is common.

A New Chapter with Weight Training

The pivotal change arrived earlier this year when Singh joined a women-only gym and began weight training, a practice she is now "evangelical about". This focus on building physical strength has forged a new, more positive relationship with her body and self-image.

The result is a woman who, at 48, feels "the most sure of myself" and "more grounded" than ever before. Her story stands as a powerful rejection of quick-fix diet culture and an endorsement of strength-based, mindful wellness for the long term.
