Ex-Ryanair Crew Warns Never Pack This in Checked Luggage

A former Ryanair cabin crew member has revealed the one item travellers should never pack in their hold luggage: laptops or computers. Eleanor, who was based in Marseille, France, warned that an overheated battery could cause a fire that would be impossible to extinguish if the source is not in the cabin.

While it is not prohibited to place a laptop in checked baggage on Ryanair flights, it is widely regarded as safer to keep it in the cabin. If electronic devices must travel in the hold, Ryanair requires them to be totally switched off and protected from accidental activation. Apps, alarms or settings capable of turning on the device must be disabled, and the device must be safeguarded against damage with packaging or a protective case. Additionally, it must not share a bag with flammable substances such as perfume or aerosols.

Eleanor also shared two seats passengers might want to avoid. Seat 11A is supposed to be a window seat but lacks a window. Row 32 on the Boeing 737 MAX, which Ryanair operates from some bases, has emergency exits at the wings and a crew seat facing passengers, meaning those seated there will have a flight attendant staring at them during takeoff and landing and must move whenever the crew needs to pass.
