The Cambridgeshire community has been left reeling after a devastating head-on collision on the A1(M) claimed the life of 42-year-old Rachel Van Oyen from Huntingdon. The tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred on Thursday, 14th September, and has prompted a major police investigation.

The Scene of the Collision

Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway of the A1(M) near St. Neots just after 3:15 pm. The incident involved a grey Volkswagen Touran, a white Iveco Daily van, and a grey BMW 118. It is believed the Volkswagen and the Iveco van were involved in the initial head-on impact.

Despite the rapid response of paramedics and air ambulance crews, Ms. Van Oyen, who was driving the Volkswagen, was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the other two vehicles sustained injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment; their conditions are now understood to be stable.
