Texas Mum's A&E Visit Reveals She's Pregnant with Quadruplets
A&E Visit Reveals Quadruplet Pregnancy for Texas Mum

A Texas mother experienced an unexpected shock when a trip to the emergency room for stomach pain led to the discovery that she was pregnant with quadruplets. April Fields, 25, was just eight weeks into her pregnancy when debilitating abdominal discomfort left her barely able to walk. Convinced that something was seriously wrong, she rushed to the hospital, fearing a potential complication.

From Cyst Fears to Quadruplet Surprise

April initially believed she might have a cyst. However, during an ultrasound scan, medical staff quickly realized this was no ordinary pregnancy. One nurse left the room in silence after asking April, "How would you feel if there was more than one?" The mother recalled being utterly stunned. "I was so shocked I could barely speak. I thought they were joking at first. But then I looked at the screen and could see all four heartbeats," she said.

A Growing Family

Already a mother to three young children with her husband Shawnpail Fields, 24, the couple had not planned for another baby, let alone four. April, a prison officer, explained: "I did a pregnancy test and saw the two little blue lines and knew it was positive. We were already parents to three children under the age of five, so we hadn’t been planning for a fourth." Despite the initial shock, the couple embraced the news with excitement.

Doctors warned that the pregnancy would be high-risk and even suggested reducing the number of babies to improve survival chances—a heartbreaking option that the couple refused. "It meant terminating the weakest of the four. But there was no way we could do that. We wanted to give them all a chance," April said.

Birth and Aftermath

As her pregnancy progressed, April's bump grew rapidly, and by 25 weeks she was admitted to hospital for constant monitoring. Another surprise emerged: one of the babies was a girl, having initially been thought to be all boys. In July 2025, April gave birth via caesarean section to three boys—Artemis, Denahi, and Curtis—and a daughter, Eudora. All were born healthy but were taken straight to the neonatal intensive care unit due to their premature arrival.

April continued: "Though healthy, they were all whisked off to NICU while I was taken to recover. When I finally got to see the quads, later that evening, my heart was bursting with love. They were just perfect." After several weeks in hospital, the babies gradually came home, completing the family of nine. "With seven kids under six, I often struggle to grab five minutes to myself. But I wouldn’t change a thing," she added.
