Met Office Warns of Cold Plunge and Snow After Spring Warmth

The Met Office has issued a warning that spring temperatures will be short-lived, with a cold snap set to bring snow and frost to parts of the UK next week. After a warm start to the season, with temperatures reaching 20.2C in Aberdeenshire on Friday, forecasters predict a sharp drop from Sunday onwards.

Meteorologist Alex Deakin said Wednesday will mark a “cold plunge”, with single-digit maximum temperatures and overnight frosts. Snow is expected in Scotland, particularly over hills, and could extend down the east coast to Norfolk, though it is unlikely to settle in most areas.

Temperatures in England will hover around 1-2C, dipping to -1C in places, while Scotland could see lows of -5C in the Highlands. The Met Office warned of a “shock to the system” after the recent mild weather.

Rain and blustery winds will accompany the cold spell, easing later in the week but leaving cool conditions and potential overnight frosts. The wintry weather follows the spring equinox on Saturday, when temperatures reached 14C in many areas.
