Global hospitality leader Hilton has unveiled ambitious plans to expand its UK portfolio with a brand new hotel and spa development in the heart of Cambridgeshire.
The proposed four-storey hotel, set to be constructed on Peterborough Road in Huntingdon, promises to be a significant addition to the local landscape. The development will feature 150 premium bedrooms, a state-of-the-art spa facility, a modern restaurant, and a spacious bar area.
Economic Boost for the Region
This major investment is set to provide a substantial economic boost to the area, with plans to create approximately 70 new full-time jobs across various sectors including hospitality, management, and wellness services.
The project represents a strong vote of confidence in the UK's hospitality sector post-pandemic, highlighting continued growth and demand for quality accommodation outside of London.
Overcoming Planning Hurdles
While the project has received initial backing, it has not been without its challenges. The development required a careful navigation of the local planning process due to its location within a designated conservation area.
Planning officers ultimately recommended approval, noting that the benefits of the scheme – including job creation and enhanced local facilities – outweighed concerns about the loss of some existing structures on the site.
The new Hilton establishment is expected to cater to both business travellers and tourists, providing a luxury option for visitors to the historic market town and its surrounding attractions.
