Colts' Charvarius Ward's Heartbreaking Tribute to Late Daughter on Birthday
NFL Star's Emotional Tribute to Late Daughter on Birthday

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Charvarius Ward has shared a devastating social media tribute marking what would have been his daughter's birthday, revealing he hasn't felt happiness since her tragic passing in October 2024.

A Father's Grief

Amani Joy Ward was just one year old when she died shortly before her second birthday. The little girl had been born with Down syndrome and two holes in her heart, facing significant health challenges from birth.

Commemorating her November 17 birthday, the NFL star posted several photographs of his daughter alongside an emotional message that read: 'Happy heavenily birthday AMANI. Haven't been happy since you left us. God was wrong for this.'

Ward's grief was palpable as he continued: 'F*** football. F*** this money. F*** any type of fame. Don't care for none of it. Lost without my baby.'

Amani's Lasting Legacy

The 29-year-old athlete had frequently described his daughter as his primary inspiration throughout his professional career, which has seen considerable success in the NFL.

When Amani passed away, Ward wrote on social media about her profound impact: 'She was the best blessing we could have asked for, and her joyous spirit made us smile from ear to ear. She taught us to have patience, trust, and a positive outlook on life.'

He added: 'She showed us true strength and bravery. She overcame adversity at a young age and was always happy, lighting up every room with her smile.'

In July 2024, Ward announced his engagement to his longtime partner Monique, who is Amani's mother. Monique also shared her own tribute on Instagram, writing: 'Happy heavenly birthday babygirl, my heart will forever be broken without you.'

Professional Journey and Current Season

Ward's professional achievements include winning the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 when they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Florida.

After his contract expired following the 2021 campaign, Ward moved west to sign for the 49ers on a three-year, $40.5million deal. During his time with San Francisco, he reached the Super Bowl again, this time facing his former team in Las Vegas but suffering a 25-20 overtime defeat.

In March 2024, after his 49ers contract concluded, Ward signed a three-year, $54million deal with the Indianapolis Colts, who have emerged as the surprise team of the current NFL season.

The Colts currently lead the AFC South with an impressive 8-2 record, with quarterback Daniel Jones orchestrating a remarkable transformation both for the team and personally after difficult seasons with the New York Giants.

However, Ward is currently on the injured reserve list after suffering his second concussion of the season in a bizarre pregame collision with teammate Drew Ogletree before the Week 6 game against Arizona Cardinals. He is scheduled to return from injured reserve this week and potentially play in Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

During Ward's absence, the Colts have strengthened their cornerback position by trading for Sauce Gardner, sending two first-round picks to the New York Jets in one of the standout moves before the early November trade deadline.

Sunday's game against the Chiefs represents one of the most anticipated showdowns of Week 12, with Kansas City under mounting pressure after their recent loss to the Denver Broncos. The Chiefs now stand at 5-5 in the AFC West, making Sunday's contest at Arrowhead Stadium essentially a must-win situation for Patrick Mahomes and his teammates.
