Troy Aikman Joins Miami Dolphins as GM Search Consultant
Troy Aikman to Advise Miami Dolphins on GM Hunt

Legendary quarterback and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman is taking on a temporary advisory role with the Miami Dolphins, tasked with helping the franchise find its next general manager.

Aikman's Advisory Role and Background

According to multiple reports, including from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the three-time Super Bowl champion will serve as a consultant throughout the hiring process. His role is explicitly temporary and will not evolve into a permanent front-office position with the Dolphins.

The Miami ownership group specifically sought an advisor with strong relationships across the NFL, a profile Aikman fits perfectly. With over three decades embedded in the league as a star player for the Dallas Cowboys and later as a top broadcaster, his insight and connections are considered invaluable for the search.

No Conflict with Broadcasting Duties

This new consultancy will not interfere with Aikman's primary job as the lead analyst for ESPN's Monday Night Football coverage. He is scheduled to be in the commentary booth for this weekend's game between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers.

Why the Dolphins Need a New GM

The Dolphins' search for a new general manager was triggered by the departure of Chris Grier on Halloween, following the team's disappointing 2-7 start to the season. Grier had been the Dolphins' GM since 2016 and had been with the organisation in various roles since 2000.

Despite his long tenure, the team failed to win a single postseason game during the nine full seasons he was at the helm. This lack of playoff success ultimately led to the decision to move on and seek new leadership for the football operations.

The involvement of a respected figure like Troy Aikman signals the seriousness of Miami's intent to conduct a thorough and informed search as they aim to rebuild and finally achieve sustained success.
