A family has been left devastated after a mother-of-four died from injuries sustained in a serious road collision on a Welsh bypass earlier this week.
Collision on the A4119 Bypass
Five people were taken to hospital following a crash involving a car and a van on the A4119 bypass at Williamstown, near Tonypandy in the Rhondda, south Wales. The incident occurred on Monday morning.
The driver of the car, 48-year-old Donna Ball from the local area, suffered life-threatening injuries. She was treated in hospital but tragically passed away the following day, on Tuesday.
Her young daughter was also hospitalised as a result of the collision. The condition of the other three casualties has not been disclosed by authorities.
Arrest and Family Tribute
In connection with the incident, a 19-year-old man from Newport has been arrested. He was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The suspect has been released on bail pending further police enquiries until 30 March.
In a heartfelt statement issued through South Wales Police, Donna Ball's grieving husband expressed the family's profound loss. He said they were "devastated by the sudden, tragic and needless death of our beloved Donna".
He paid tribute to the emergency services, stating: "We would like to take this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to all the emergency services who attended, including the air ambulance, Accident and Emergency, and the critical care teams at the University Hospital of Wales."
He also thanked staff at the Owl Ward and Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales for caring for his daughter.
