The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has confirmed it is investigating a serious road incident in Nigeria involving British heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.

Foreign Office Launches Urgent Investigation

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office stated they are looking into reports of the crash, which occurred on Monday 29 December 2025. The incident resulted in two fatalities. "We are urgently investigating reports of a road incident in Nigeria involving at least one British national and stand ready to offer consular assistance, if requested," the spokesperson said. They added, "Our thoughts are with those affected, and their families."

Details of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Collision

The crash took place on the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway. According to reports, the Lexus Jeep carrying Anthony Joshua collided with a stationary commercial Sinotruck. Joshua was a passenger in the vehicle and was fortunate to sustain only minor injuries. Of the four adult males involved in the collision, Joshua and one other individual largely escaped unharmed.

Boxer's Condition and Aftermath
