Lidl has issued a warning to shoppers planning to visit stores this Friday, as the supermarket chain expects it to be the busiest day of the late May bank holiday weekend. The bank holiday falls on Monday, May 26, and Lidl has confirmed it will be open across the weekend with adjusted hours.
On Friday, May 23, Lidl stores will open at 7am and close at 10pm. The chain recommends shoppers visit between 8am and 10am or after 6pm for a quieter experience. Saturday hours remain unchanged, with stores open from 7am to 10pm.
On Sunday, due to Sunday trading laws, Lidl stores will open between 10am and 11am and close between 4pm and 5pm, with some stores opening half an hour earlier. On the bank holiday Monday, most stores will open at 7am, though some may open at 8am, and close at 10pm. Opening hours may vary, particularly for stores in shopping centres.
Lidl also announced it is on track to open 40 new supermarkets this financial year as part of a £500 million expansion plan. The chain has published a 2025 site requirements brochure listing hundreds of potential locations across England, Scotland, and Wales, aiming to reach 1,100 UK stores by the end of 2025.
