Owners of older Fire TV Sticks are facing a new streaming block, but this time it is not about piracy. As reported by AFTV News, millions of users with outdated devices can no longer access HBO Max, which recently launched in the UK.
HBO Max, priced from £4.99 a month, offers a wide range of content including Euphoria, House of the Dragon, and the Harry Potter collection. However, the service only supports Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6 or newer. Devices stuck on Fire OS 5 or earlier are now incompatible.
Among the affected models is the second-generation Fire TV Stick, once a best-seller. Unlike smartphones, Fire TV Sticks do not receive major OS upgrades, so users cannot update from Fire OS 5 to a newer version. The only solution is to upgrade to a newer device.
To check your device, go to Settings > My Fire TV > About and look under Software Version. If it shows Fire OS 5 or earlier, you will be blocked from HBO Max.
