UK Snow Map: Four Counties Bracing for Freezing Next Week

Weather maps from WX Charts have forecast a chilly turn in the weather over the coming days, with some parts of the UK set for snow. Brits have been warned to brace for an unseasonable cold snap as forecasts show minimum temperatures dropping below freezing again.

Snow Forecast for Mid-May

Weather charts from WX Charts, which use MetDesk data, have forecast snow for some parts of the UK next week. The white stuff is predicted to hit the UK from the early hours of Thursday, May 14, to the afternoon of Friday, May 15. The charts show snowfall mainly over Scotland, with some counties further south also due for a dusting on the Friday, especially in the early hours of the morning.

Areas Affected

Temperatures in Scotland over that period could drop as low as -2C, with the biggest chill predicted in the area around Fort William. Three areas of Scotland are forecast to see snow, with up to three centimetres predicted to fall on the highest ground. People in Aberdeenshire, Highland, and Perth and Kinross are all set for the unseasonable weather.

Further south, areas of Wales are also set for flurries, according to the charts. The forecast shows that areas of Powys may be hit on high ground in the early hours of next Friday.

Long Range Outlook

The long-range weather forecast from the Met Office for the period from Monday, May 11, to Wednesday, May 20, stated that conditions would be "changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by." This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected.

For the most part, temperatures are likely to be close to or perhaps a little below normal. However, depending on the position of low pressure relative to the UK, there is the chance of brief warmer, more humid interludes extending north from the near continent. With this would be the chance of some thunderstorms, these most likely affecting parts of England and Wales.
