Cate Blanchett Stuns in Sheer Dress at BFI Fellowship Event for Guillermo del Toro
Cate Blanchett Dazzles in Sheer Dress at BFI Event

Cate Blanchett looked incredible in a semi-sheer dress as she presented filmmaker Guillermo del Toro with a prestigious BFI Fellowship on Wednesday. The actress, 56, went braless beneath a plunging blazer, which was covered with a flowing satin dress. Cate received one of Britain's highest film honours back in 2015.

Guillermo was honoured for his many works of art, including Oscar-winning films The Shape of Water, Pinocchio and Pan's Labyrinth, as well as Hellboy, Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim. His most recent film Frankenstein, starring Jacob Elordi, released last year and won multiple accolades.

Guillermo said at the BFI Chair's dinner: 'It was like a youth dream come true. This is something legendary for any filmmaker, any storyteller – this is a legendary status.' He added, 'It feels precarious. From the outside it looks continuous, but from the inside it looks precarious. It keeps you grounded. It's never easy to do what you want the way you want it and have a continuous career. There are gaps of three, four, five years between movies, but that only comes because of the determination of never giving in.'

Cate was joined at the dinner by many star-studded faces including Simon Pegg. Last month, the actress showed the London media she wasn't prepared to be messed with during a red carpet appearance at the Olivier Awards. The Australian star gave one noisy reporter the finger after the male photographer would not stop yelling at the Oscar winner for a photo op. At first, Cate kept her cool, telling him with a smile to 'stop' asking for a picture at his convenience. But after he insisted, the actress stuck up the middle finger of her left hand in his direction – while keeping her face turned away. The cheeky gesture was met with a chorus of raucous laughter from the media scrum, while the Lord of the Rings star reacted with a broad grin.

A video of Cate's unexpected red carpet moment was later posted on the Movie TV News site and met with enthusiastic approval from fans. 'God, that was the smoothest, classiest flip I've seen in a minute,' gushed one person, while another added, 'I love her for this.' 'Cate & Kate Winslet are very similar in this regard,' commented another. 'Don't give them any bloody nonsense, they won't put up with it!!'
