Morrisons has announced changes to its opening hours for the upcoming bank holiday Monday, May 4, 2026. While the supermarket will operate as usual on Friday, May 1, Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, shoppers should be aware that many stores may close earlier than normal on the bank holiday itself.
Bank Holiday Monday Hours
On Monday, May 4, the majority of large Morrisons supermarkets in England and Wales will be open from 7am to 8pm. Smaller Morrisons Daily convenience stores will maintain their regular hours. In Scotland, where there are no legal restrictions on trading hours for large shops on Sundays or bank holidays, Morrisons stores are expected to operate as normal.
Exact opening times may vary by location, so customers are advised to check their local store's hours online before visiting.
Job Cuts at Head Office
This announcement comes amid news that Morrisons is putting approximately 200 jobs at risk at its head office as part of a major restructuring. The supermarket launched a consultation earlier this month over the proposed cuts, which will affect less than 10% of roles at its Hilmore House headquarters.
Morrisons said it plans to increase its use of artificial intelligence across operations. Last month, the retailer reported further sales growth as it continues a turnaround under CEO Rami Baitieh. The company acknowledged that it is "tough for customers right now" and committed to further investment in pricing to support shoppers.
A Morrisons spokesperson stated: "As we evolve and adapt, we are proposing to make some changes to a number of areas within our central structure. This will involve making some tough but necessary decisions which will impact on colleagues in our head office, where we are proposing to place a number of roles at risk of redundancy. We understand this will be difficult news for these colleagues and will be offering them our full support, including helping them to find alternative roles elsewhere in the business wherever we can. A consultation process with colleagues has now commenced."
The company began a long-term programme to overhaul its central business operations last year.
