State of Emergency as Fires Multiply
Firefighting services are currently battling a staggering 91 separate bushfires across NSW. Alarmingly, nearly two dozen of these blazes are reported to be out-of-control, posing a severe threat to life and property. The infernos have already consumed more than 1,000 hectares of land, with the situation rapidly deteriorating.
The crisis has been exacerbated by a severe weather event. On Saturday, temperatures in the state soared, with the mercury hitting a scorching 44.2 degrees Celsius. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) confirmed these are some of the highest temperatures recorded in the region in five or six years.

Regional centres including Gosford and Dubbo experienced their hottest days since 2020. This grim milestone is a stark reminder of the catastrophic "Black Summer" bushfires that devastated the nation and shocked the world just a few years ago, raising fears of a similar-scale disaster.
