Savannah Guthrie, the beloved co-host of NBC's Today show, has delivered a reassuring update on her health following a necessary surgical procedure on her vocal chords.
A Positive Post-Surgery Message
Taking to Instagram on Monday, the 54-year-old broadcaster confirmed she is on the mend. Guthrie posted a selfie holding a small whiteboard with a handwritten, cheerful message: 'All good! Thanks for prayers and love!' She captioned the photo simply, 'See you soon!'
The update was met with an outpouring of support from fans and followers on social media. One well-wisher commented, 'So happy to hear all went well! Sending healing vibes,' while another added, 'Love you QUIET and LOUD!' A third follower wrote, 'Wonderful news! I'm praying for you and wishing you well and a speedy recovery!'
The Reason Behind the Hiatus
Guthrie announced last month that she would be taking a hiatus from the flagship morning programme to address a persistent issue with her voice. Her last appearance on air was on December 20.
During the broadcast on December 19, she explained the diagnosis to viewers, stating, 'Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit.' She revealed she had developed vocal nodules and a polyp that required surgical removal.
'It's not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks,' she said at the time. Guthrie expressed relief at finally having a solution after years of dealing with the unexplained vocal problems.
Recovery and Support from Colleagues
Following the procedure, Guthrie is required to be on complete vocal rest, meaning she must remain 'totally silent' to allow for healing. Her exact return date to the Today show studio has not yet been confirmed.
She received immediate support and practical advice from her co-host Sheinelle Jones, who underwent the same surgery herself. Jones, 47, told Guthrie, 'The surgery is in and out, no big deal. The silver lining is permission to be still. The house gets quiet. The kids want to help you out.' Jones even gifted Guthrie a whiteboard to communicate while her voice is out of action.
Fellow presenter Craig Melvin added his wishes for a swift recovery, echoing the sentiments of the entire Today show team and its audience, who eagerly await her return.
