Two British tourists have been sentenced for a violent attack on three people in a cocktail bar near Magaluf, Mallorca, after a waitress refused to serve them more drinks. Tommy Colm Witty, 24, and Alexander Lee Anderson, 33, initially faced up to 10 years in prison for attempted homicide but entered a plea bargain deal.
Incident Details
The attack occurred at around 2 a.m. on June 22, 2024, at Iroko Mallorca in Palmanova. According to a four-page indictment, Witty and Anderson, along with two unidentified individuals, became aggressive after a female employee refused service. The indictment states they used abusive language and made obscene gestures before pushing the waitress, causing her to fall and hit her head, sustaining cuts to her leg from broken glass.
The pair then attacked two men who intervened: a colleague was struck on the back of the head with glass, and a customer suffered wounds to his neck and hand after Witty threw a glass at him, which shattered as the victim raised his arm to protect his face.
Legal Outcome
Witty, who had been held on remand, was sentenced to two years in prison. Anderson was fined €720 (£620). As part of the plea bargain, they agreed to pay a four-figure compensation settlement to the three victims. The agreement was based on their guilty pleas and the payment of compensation ahead of the hearing.
Police found Witty brandishing a broken bottle at the scene. A Civil Guard spokesman said officers on routine patrol intervened, subduing Witty and confiscating the bottle. All three victims required medical treatment at Son Espases Hospital in Palma for wounds to their neck, head, arms, and legs.
