Two teenagers who died after their motorbike was struck by a BMW have been named as Jaydon Bowyer, 19, and Ta-Shay Canoville, 16. The collision occurred near a roundabout on Aberthaw Road in Newport, Wales, at approximately 1:30 AM earlier this week. Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene. The BMW reportedly fled before police arrived.
Arrests Made
An 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three remain in police custody.
Emotional Tributes
Jaydon's mother, Sophie Pederson, expressed her grief online, stating she is 'struggling to process the loss of you, my first born, my whole world, my absolute everything.' She added, 'My boy, my darling darling boy. Why just why. How do I live without you here by my side.'
Jaydon's girlfriend, Rachael Stephenson, a hairdresser, wrote on Facebook: 'I never imagined I would see this day having to live in a world without you in it. You were my happiness and the person who made my darkest days feel light again.' She described him as having 'the purest heart' and said, 'I'll love you forever, my gorgeous boy.'
Ta-Shay's father, Carl, posted a picture of his son alongside four broken heart emojis. His Sunday league team, Odsal Rangers, held a minute's silence and wore black armbands in tribute before their match.
Community Response
Hundreds of people gathered to release white and blue balloons and set off blue flares in memory of the two teenagers. A fireworks display was held later that evening. A GoFundMe page with a £16,000 target for funeral costs has raised over £10,000 so far.
Newport councillor Alex Pimm urged the public to refrain from speculation, stating, 'Two young lads have lost their lives, and my condolences are with their family and friends at this extremely sad and difficult time.'
Police Appeal
Gwent Police are appealing for anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage captured between midnight and 1:40 AM on May 7, to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing.
