Two women from Georgia in the United States have been arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty following a disturbing discovery at their home.
Horrific Scene Uncovered by Investigators
Police and animal welfare officers in Gwinnett County described a "horrific" scene when they executed a search warrant at the Snellville property. The investigation, initiated in September following allegations of cruelty, led to the rescue of 25 living dogs found confined in small, filthy cages.
Authorities stated the surviving animals were underweight and malnourished, forced to live in enclosures filled with their own faeces and urine. In a further shocking discovery, officers found 13 deceased dogs stored inside refrigerators on the premises.
Suspects in Custody as Dogs Recover
The two suspects have been identified as Christine Abbott, 67, and Donna Slavin, 65, both from Snellville. They now face a total of 26 animal cruelty charges related to the incident.
Both women are currently being held at the Gwinnett County Jail, with bond set at $16,000 each. Meanwhile, the 25 dogs that were rescued from the squalid conditions have been transferred to the care of the county animal shelter, where they are receiving necessary veterinary treatment and rehabilitation.
