A thug who terrorised women in their cars during an anti-immigration protest has been unmasked as a sword-wielding domestic abuser. Craig McNab, 43, was a key figure in protests in Falkirk following the knife attack in Belfast that sparked unrest across the UK.
The landscaper was pictured as part of a mob that blocked and surrounded a woman's car, with some screaming and making obscene gestures. Another woman reported being called a "rapist supporter" for not supporting the far-right demonstration. The Daily Record can now reveal McNab's criminal past.
Criminal History
In 2016, McNab was drunk when he attacked his then partner and swung a ceremonial sword, slashing at a bedroom door as she and her 16-year-old son cowered behind it. In 2019, he was also convicted for drug possession.
A source contacted the Daily Record after McNab's masked face featured on our front page yesterday. The source said: "Craig McNab is notorious in Falkirk for his right-wing views and is a main rabble-rouser at events like this. He always carried a mask to cover his face because he knows his extreme demonstrating could lead to arrest. He loves the chaos he causes with his mask on, which is pathetic for a grown man."
Terrorised Women
Our coverage of the Falkirk protest on Tuesday captured disgraceful scenes where McNab targeted innocent female drivers. Mum of seven Sarah McCabe, 39, said: "It was very frightening." Local businesswoman Cherise Williamson took to TikTok to speak out after being left terrified by the mob at traffic lights. She said: "I got a barrage of abuse from these big bully men. They surrounded my window and told me I am supporting rapists. It was so, so scary."
Wider Unrest
The Falkirk scenes unfolded as thugs marauded through Glasgow city centre, wearing black clothing and covering faces with masks, including Union Jacks. Worshippers locked themselves in a mosque for safety, and Police Scotland said five people were injured, including two officers. One doctor was allegedly told he would be attacked if he helped an injured victim. Three officers sustained minor injuries from thrown items, and two police vehicles were damaged. Video online showed a man being attacked at St Enoch Square.
In Greenock, a woman was arrested and charged with a hate crime amid disorder on Wednesday night. Two men were arrested and issued fixed-penalty notices for anti-social behaviour. The protests erupted across Scotland after a video showed an assailant on a north Belfast street stabbing and slashing his victim, Stephen Ogilvie, shouting in Arabic. On Wednesday, Hadi Alodid, 30, a Sudanese refugee, appeared in Belfast Magistrates Court charged with attempted murder.
More demonstrations are planned for Glasgow, Edinburgh, and other locations on Saturday. Gatherings are understood to be organised by far-right organisers and distributed via social media groups.
Court Appearances
At McNab's 2016 court appearance, he admitted assault and behaving in a threatening manner at an address in Inchyra Place, Grangemouth, at Falkirk Sheriff Court. The court heard he grabbed his partner by the throat, and she struggled to breathe. She broke free and went with her son into his bedroom, where they saw McNab with a sword. McNab was ordered to pay £200 and be of good behaviour for 12 months. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to producing cannabis worth £750 at the same address. Sheriff John Mundy ordered McNab to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work within six months.
The Daily Record has messaged McNab via Facebook and email to invite him to respond.
