A 14-year-old girl is set to appear in court later today after being charged with three counts of attempted murder following a knife attack at a Manchester school. The charges were confirmed by Greater Manchester Police on Thursday, which also include two counts of possessing a bladed article on school premises.
Incident Details
The attack occurred on Tuesday morning at the Co-op Academy on Plant Hill Road in Blackley. Two 14-year-old pupils and a 27-year-old male staff member sustained injuries. All three victims have since been discharged from hospital and are reported to have suffered no serious injuries.
Investigation Handed to Counter-Terror Police
While the investigation has been passed to counter-terror police, authorities have clarified that the incident has not been declared a terrorist act. Detective Chief Superintendent Jonathan Chadwick, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North West, stated: “These are extremely serious charges against a young girl and, working closely with Greater Manchester Police, we continue to support the victims and their families and offer support to the wider school community, who have been deeply affected by what happened. Although charges have now been secured, our investigation is still ongoing, and we continue to work with local policing colleagues in the Blackley area.”
Court Appearance
The teenager is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Friday.
