Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of 79 additional branches across the UK over the next year, as the trend of banks reducing their high street presence continues. The closures include sites in Wales and affect 31 Lloyds Bank branches and 48 Halifax locations.
This latest round comes on top of 95 branch closures already announced earlier this year. If all planned closures proceed, Lloyds Banking Group will operate 531 branches nationwide.
The north-west and south-east of England are among the worst affected areas, with 12 closures in each region. London will see 10 branches shut. The group assured customers that they can still access services through other brands in its network, including Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland branches.
According to the company, more than three-quarters of the closing branches are within one mile of another Lloyds Banking Group location, and 95% have an alternative branch within five miles.
A Lloyds Banking Group spokesman said: "With access to one of the biggest branch networks in the UK, alongside local banking options like our Community Bankers, the Post Office, PayPoint, plus our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service, we offer our customers more choice and convenience than ever before."
