Sydney's Iconic Stonewall Hotel Enters Administration After New Ownership
The Stonewall Hotel, a cherished and iconic venue located in Darlinghurst within Sydney's central business district, has officially entered administration. This development occurred on Friday, March 13, marking a significant turn of events for the establishment.
New Ownership and Expansion Plans
Late in 2025, the Stonewall Hotel was acquired by Pride Holdings Group, a hospitality company based in the United States. The acquisition added the pub to their expanding portfolio. In January, just over a month prior to the administration announcement, Pride Holdings Group revealed ambitious plans to open a second location of the Stonewall Hotel in Newtown. This expansion was intended to build on the venue's longstanding reputation as a cultural and social hub in Sydney.
Administration Proceedings
However, a notice filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) indicated that the company has gone into administration. Mohammad Najjar has been appointed as the administrator to oversee the process. To inform stakeholders, a teleconference for the company's creditors is scheduled for 11am on March 25. This meeting will address financial matters and the future of the venue.
Customer Notification
In a visible move to communicate the situation to the public, a notice was taped to the front entrance of The Stonewall Hotel. This action aimed to notify customers and passersby of the administration status, ensuring transparency during this uncertain period for the beloved venue.
