Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will watch Arsenal's Premier League clash with Fulham on Saturday evening, as the title race intensifies. The Manchester City manager was asked at his pre-match press conference if he would tune in, replying: “What time do they play? It’s after a training session, so maybe I will watch it.”
Arsenal currently hold a three-point lead at the top of the table with four matches remaining, following a 1-0 win over Newcastle last weekend. They have the chance to extend that advantage to six points before City face Everton on Monday night, though Guardiola’s side have a game in hand.
Guardiola also addressed City’s congested fixture schedule, with four games in 12 days after rearranged matches against Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. He said: “It is what it is. Arsenal are in the Champions League semi-final, so it is what it is. When we won the Treble, we had a similar calendar, but I learned a long time ago not to expect anything different.”
The Catalan coach defended Arsenal’s style of play after contrasts were drawn between their tense Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid and the nine-goal thriller between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. “Football is like this – everyone has their own style,” he said. “It was a good game [PSG v Bayern]. Atletico Madrid v Arsenal was another good game too.”
