Honeycomb Blast Choc Bar Recalled Over Milk Allergen

The Food Standards Agency has issued an urgent recall for a popular chocolate bar after discovering it contains an allergen not listed on the label. Buttermilk Confections is recalling its Honeycomb Blast Choc Bar because it contains milk, which is not declared as an ingredient.

Risk to Consumers

The presence of milk (casein) poses a potential health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. The FSA has published a warning advising consumers to check their purchases.

Recall Details

The affected product is a 45g pack with batch code BM26105 and a best before date of June 15. Buttermilk Confections has taken action by recalling the product and issuing point-of-sale notices to customers. These notices explain why the product is being recalled and what to do if purchased.

What Consumers Should Do

If you have bought the item and have a milk allergy or intolerance, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund. The company has also contacted relevant allergy support organisations to alert their members.

Understanding Allergy Alerts

The FSA explains that sometimes a food product may have a problem meaning it should not be sold. In such cases, it may be withdrawn from shelves or recalled, with customers asked to return the product. Foods are withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers due to missing or incorrect allergy labelling or any other food allergy risk. When this occurs, the FSA issues an allergy alert.
