Olympia Valance Revels in New Motherhood and Shares Personal Insights

Olympia Valance, the former Neighbours actress, is thoroughly enjoying her new role as a mother after welcoming her first child, Billy, with husband Thomas Bellchambers in December 2024. In a recent interview, the 33-year-old expressed her overwhelming joy and described motherhood as the most beautiful and transformative experience of her life.

The Joys and Challenges of Parenthood

"It's the best thing that's ever happened to me," Olympia told Daily Mail following a visit to baby gymnastics with Billy. "It's beautiful, it's chaotic, it's exhausting, and magical all at once. There's nothing that prepares you for how much you can love someone. I'm completely and utterly obsessed with this kid."

She humorously added that while she feels tired constantly, it's "the best kind of tired" one can experience. Her AFL star husband Thomas, 36, has also embraced fatherhood with equal enthusiasm, becoming a doting and hands-on parent.

"Oh, God. He absolutely adores being a dad. It's my favourite version of him," she gushed. "He's so hands-on, so patient. He works incredibly hard, but the second he walks through the door, it's straight into dad mode. It has definitely brought us closer together."

Post-Pregnancy Skincare Transformation

While motherhood has brought immense happiness, Olympia revealed that pregnancy significantly affected her skin, presenting unexpected challenges. "My skin completely changed when I became pregnant," she explained. "It was so unpredictable – like, the colouring of my skin changed."

She experienced issues such as melasma and dryness, leading her to simplify her skincare routine. Olympia discovered that overcomplicating products made matters worse, and she now prioritizes hydration above all else.

"For me, it was all about layering hydration and keeping that skin barrier happy. So, when your skin is properly hydrated, you look healthier and more glowy and radiant," she emphasized. This philosophy aligned perfectly with her recent partnership with Hada Labo Tokyo to promote their Skin Plumping Gel, a brand that focuses on simple, effective hydration.

Nutrition and Family Life Adjustments

Olympia also discussed how her dietary habits have evolved since becoming a mother. She strives to provide Billy with nourishing, organic meals, which often means she ends up eating well herself, albeit in unconventional ways.

"It's a little hard to quantify what I would eat in a day because a lot of it is, like Billy's sandwich crust or the dregs of a smoothie," she laughed. However, her husband Thomas sometimes gets the short end of the stick when it comes to meals.

"Poor Thomas just gets leftovers," she joked. "I used to love cooking big meals like lamb shanks and casseroles, but now I'm like: 'If Billy can't eat it, babe, you're not getting it.'"

Advocacy for Fertility Education and IVF Awareness

The couple's path to parenthood was not without hardship, as Olympia has openly shared her struggles with IVF and multiple miscarriages before welcoming Billy. She now advocates for more public conversations around infertility, urging society to treat these topics with openness rather than as taboos.

"Going through fertility challenges was one of the hardest things that I've ever experienced – that Thomas has ever experienced," she revealed. "I kind of realised how little we're taught about our own bodies. We grew up assuming that pregnancy would just happen when we wanted it to, and that's just not always the case."

Olympia calls for an overhaul of sex education in schools to include comprehensive information about fertility. She referenced popular culture to highlight misconceptions, noting how media often simplifies reproductive health.

"It reminds me of that scene in Mean Girls, where the sex-ed teacher was like: 'If you have sex, you will get pregnant.' It's just not the case," she pointed out.

Encouraging Egg Freezing for Reproductive Freedom

In addition to advocating for fertility education, Olympia strongly supports egg freezing as a means for young women to gain greater reproductive autonomy. She encourages women to consider this option to plan their futures more flexibly.

"Every young woman should go and freeze their eggs – I wish I had done that earlier," she advised. "You just have more freedom as a woman. When you get to the point in your life when you are ready to have a kid, you don't have to stop your work, you can have a baby later in life, or you don't have to settle for a dude that isn't a great dude just because you want to have a baby."

She emphasized that sharing her personal journey, though painful at times, is worthwhile if it helps others feel less isolated. "If sharing my journey helps even one woman feel less alone, or encourages someone to ask questions earlier, then I think it's worth it," Olympia concluded, highlighting the importance of community and support in navigating fertility issues.
