Julia Garner and Donald Glover Film The Studio Season 2 in Venice

Julia Garner and Donald Glover were seen filming scenes for the second season of The Studio at the luxurious Gritti Palace Hotel in Venice on Monday. The pair have joined the cast of the Apple TV+ series, which also features returning stars Seth Rogen, Bryan Cranston, and Kathryn Hahn.

Glamorous Appearances on Set

Julia Garner cut a glamorous figure in a plunging teal dress, accessorised with a fur cape and glitzy chandelier earrings. Donald Glover, aged 42, looked dapper in a multi-coloured floral jacket with a red collar, worn over a blue shirt. Details about their characters in the show have not yet been revealed.

Plot and Returning Cast

The series follows the workers behind a legacy Hollywood movie studio, who battle to ensure film remains an art form while striving to meet ever-evolving business demands. Seth Rogen plays the lead role of Matt Remick, the newly appointed head of fictional Continental Studios, hired to save the company in an era of rapid industry changes, including technological advancements.

While Matt is a cinephile ready to make the next cult classic, his ruthless CEO, played by Bryan Cranston, takes him on a journey of monthly targets and quotas, compromising his dreams. The plot for season two remains under wraps, with no A-list cameos confirmed yet, though Seth Rogen teased potential appearances earlier this year.

Critical Acclaim and Awards Success

The first season of The Studio proved to be a hit among critics, with the Hollywood Reporter calling it "so hilarious it hurts" and a "strong contender for the best new comedy of 2025". The show soared during awards season, winning Golden Globes for Best Television Series in a Musical or Comedy and Best Actor for Seth Rogen.

At the Emmy Awards in September, The Studio made history by scoring a whopping 13 gongs, breaking the all-time record for most wins for a comedy series.

Tragic Loss and Tribute

Production for season two kicked off in January, but just a few weeks into shooting, the series was hit by the devastating news of Catherine O'Hara's tragic death. The legendary actress, who played the role of Patty Leigh, passed away on January 30 at the age of 71 from a pulmonary embolism caused by rectal cancer.

Following the loss, the cast cancelled a promotional event and issued a joint statement expressing their heartbreak. Catherine O'Hara posthumously won the Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series earlier this month, with Seth Rogen accepting the award on her behalf.

In a heartfelt tribute, Rogen hailed O'Hara as a performer who commanded respect and admiration, noting her ability to be generous and kind while never minimizing her own talents. He urged the audience to share her work, highlighting iconic moments from her career.
