Mel Gibson is said to be devastated by the death of his co-star Nadia Fares, who died on April 17 following a swimming pool accident. The 57-year-old actress was found unconscious in the pool of a luxury gym in Paris on April 11 and was placed in a medically induced coma before passing away after a cardiac arrest.
Gibson, 70, starred with Fares in the 2022 thriller On The Line. Reports suggest the pair had a close bond that had recently become romantic, following Gibson's split from partner Rosalind Ross in December 2025. A source told the Daily Mail: 'He is gutted that she is gone so young.'
The insider added: 'Mel has been enamoured with many women in his lifetime, and Nadia Fares is no question one of the women in his life that he has so much love and respect for... They had a tremendous bond that makes her passing such an incredible loss.'
Gibson previously praised Fares, saying: 'She is an actress gifted with a rare sensitivity and an elegance that illuminates every scene.' Fares had undergone a brain aneurysm operation in 2007 and three heart surgeries in four years. Her death was confirmed by her daughters, Cylia and Shana Chasman, who said: 'France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is above all a mother we have just lost.'
