Public relations and crisis consultant Mark Borkowski has declared that the Prince and Princess of Wales face the critical responsibility of restoring the integrity of the royal family following the damaging scandal involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The future monarchs must articulate a clear vision for the institution, which some observers suggest is experiencing its worst crisis in ninety years, to rebuild essential public trust.
Mounting Pressure on Future Monarchs
Borkowski emphasized the significant burden now placed upon William and Kate, stating they must answer the pivotal question: "how do they establish the integrity of the royal family?" He elaborated that the couple's generation must determine the future direction of the crown, with its considerable soft power and state affairs, noting it increasingly resembles a European monarchy. The pressure specifically falls on Prince William to communicate what the royal family will represent over the next five decades.
"The heavy weight of this burden on the royal family's reputation lies with William and Kate and what they're going to do," Borkowski asserted. Prince William has previously indicated that "change is on my agenda" when he ascends to the throne. However, experts suggest this may necessitate opening both himself and the monarchy to greater public scrutiny as traditional, deferential attitudes toward the royal family continue to diminish.
