British UFC Star Harry Hardwick Posts Grisly Hospital Video After Jaw-Breaking Defeat

British UFC featherweight Harry Hardwick has taken to social media to reassure fans following a brutal stoppage loss that left him with a broken jaw, although the graphic video he shared might not have fully eased concerns about his condition.

Brutal Las Vegas Contest Ends With Medical Emergency

Hardwick fell to 0-2 in the UFC with a second-round stoppage loss to Marwan Rahiki during their Saturday night contest in Las Vegas. The unbeaten 23-year-old Rahiki produced a relentless onslaught that left the 31-year-old Briton unable to emerge for the third round, with the fight being stopped by the referee.

The Middlesbrough fighter's primary concern was a significant broken jaw that required immediate hospital attention following the featherweight bout. The severity of the injury was clearly visible as Hardwick addressed his followers via Instagram stories from what appeared to be a vehicle en route to medical care.

Hardwick's Resilient Message to Supporters

In the video, which showed Hardwick sporting medical apparatus around his head and face, the fighter delivered a surprisingly upbeat message despite his obvious discomfort and injury.

"Everybody, I'm okay," Hardwick said in the clip. "My jaw is obviously messed up, that's alright; I like soup, I like smoothies, and I like milkshakes, and I like energy drinks. So, all these things, I can still have."

He continued with remarkable perspective: "Life's good. I cannot complain about my position. I have an amazing, beautiful girlfriend, good health, good family, good support network. No one needs to cry for me, I'm okay. I'm obviously gutted, but that's the sport I'm in. I wanted to win, but it is what it is."

Hardwick gave credit to his opponent, acknowledging: "Hats off to Marwan, he threw the shot that broke my jaw. He did it on purpose, it's not luck. It is what it is."

The Fight That Caused the Damage

The injury appeared to result from a clean left hook from Rahiki that fractured Hardwick's jaw early in the contest. Despite the significant damage, Hardwick displayed tremendous resilience, continuing to absorb punishment and throwing punches back when possible throughout a prolonged beating before the fight was stopped.

Rahiki later commented on a joint Instagram post from Hardwick and MMA Fighting that quoted the Briton's words from his Instagram story. The undefeated fighter wrote simply: "Fast recovery."

Hardwick responded humorously to his own video, commenting: "Morphine had just kicked in before I started talking all that waffle."

Changing Perceptions of Hardwick's Toughness

This performance marked a significant shift in perception regarding Hardwick's fighting heart. Following his UFC debut in September, where he was unable to continue after suffering a series of debilitating leg kicks against Kaue Fernandes, some observers had questioned the Briton's toughness and resilience.

However, no such criticism emerged after this latest contest, with fellow fighters acknowledging his courage in the face of severe injury.

UFC veteran Cub Swanson tweeted: "I was critical of Harry Hardwick but he is extremely tough, and I don't wish a broken jaw on anyone. I've been there before. Speedy recovery."

Fellow UFC athlete Terrance McKinney added: "Hardwick said forget what you heard I'm here to fight. Rahiki just had too much power. Smart move by Hardwick, protect your body man."

Personal Support During Recovery

Hardwick later shared a photograph from hospital showing himself alongside his girlfriend Holly, with the caption reading: "I wasn't good enough tonight and I lost in the cage but I'm never losing in life with you by my side."

Holly posted her own tribute, writing: "So proud of you. Seeing how much heart, strength and dedication you put into everything makes me love and admire you even more. I'll forever be proud of you — my fighter, my inspiration and my man, always."

The British fighter now faces a significant recovery period as he heals from the broken jaw, with his UFC record standing at 0-2 following consecutive stoppage losses in his first two appearances in the promotion.
