Szoboszlai Urges Liverpool Fans to Stay as Early Exits Affect Team
Szoboszlai: Liverpool Fans Leaving Early Hurts Team

Szoboszlai Pleads with Liverpool Supporters to Halt Early Stadium Departures

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has publicly addressed the growing trend of fans leaving Anfield early, stating it negatively affects the team's performance. His comments follow a tense 1-1 draw with Tottenham, where boos and early exits marred the atmosphere.

Impact of Fan Behavior on Liverpool's Struggles

Szoboszlai expressed concern over supporters departing before and after Richarlison's late equaliser, emphasising that such actions do not help the squad. "I don't think it helps us that after 80 minutes people start to go home; it doesn't help us at all," he said. "Stick with us. Everyone is noticing that and when we concede a goal still people are leaving the stadium – you don't leave when we score."

The draw leaves Liverpool fifth in the Premier League, with their home form a significant worry. They have drawn four and lost three of their 15 league games at Anfield this season. A crucial Champions League match against Galatasaray awaits on Wednesday, where Liverpool must overturn a one-goal deficit.

Team Discussions and Frustrations Amidst Poor Results

Szoboszlai revealed that the team recently held talks to address their declining form. "We had, a couple of weeks ago, a talk between each other saying: 'Guys we don't have such a lot of time to do this right so we have to wake up and start to go in a way that we want to play Champions League next season,'" he explained. He acknowledged the frustration among fans but urged unity, saying, "I understand the frustration, but we need them, we need everybody."

The Tottenham match followed a last-minute loss to Wolves, with previous defeats against Manchester City and Bournemouth also coming from injury-time winners. These results have jeopardised Liverpool's Champions League qualification hopes. Against Tottenham, Liverpool managed 17 shots but only four were on target, contributing to a tense atmosphere among home supporters.

Call for Solidarity in Difficult Times

Szoboszlai stressed the importance of fan support during challenging periods. "It should be normal that in hard times we stick together more because that's what we need: we need each other," he said. "We want to make them happy; it's not that we do it on purpose. We want to make ourselves happy, make all the Liverpool supporters happy, but we need them."

Reflecting on the contrast with last season, he added, "Last year it was for sure enjoyable to watch all the games, but this year maybe it's not that enjoyable. But still support us also when we are in difficult times." Szoboszlai, who scored his 11th goal of the season from a free-kick in the match, highlighted the urgency for improvement, stating, "We still need to find a solution because we are running out of time."
