As spring cleaning gets underway, experts have warned that three kitchen appliances could be harbouring harmful biofilms if not cleaned properly. Tefal has identified air fryers, food processors, and damaged utensils as common spots for bacteria buildup.
Air fryers, a staple in many modern kitchens, can accumulate grease and food particles in baskets, trays, and internal surfaces. Experts advise washing all removable parts after each use and ensuring they are thoroughly dry before reassembling.
Food processors, with blades, seals, lids, and bowls, can trap moisture and residue in hard-to-reach areas. These parts should be fully taken apart and dried after each use to prevent biofilm formation.
Damaged non-stick pans, chopping boards, and wooden utensils with scratches or cracks can harbour bacteria. Using silicone, wood, or heat-resistant plastic utensils on non-stick surfaces can help prevent damage and reduce contamination risk.
