The team of Welsh music icon Bonnie Tyler has confirmed that the singer is no longer in a coma but remains seriously unwell in intensive care in Portugal.

Health Update

The Neath Port Talbot-born star, renowned for chart-topping hits including Holding Out for a Hero and Total Eclipse of the Heart, was placed into an induced coma at the beginning of May following emergency surgery.

In an update shared with fans on June 15, Bonnie's representatives said: "We are pleased to share that Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal."

Gratitude for Support

They added: "We would like to thank everyone for the huge outpouring of love and support from all over the world that we have received for Bonnie and want to tell you that she is aware of, and very grateful for, your good wishes."

The singer, who has a home in Faro, Portugal, had been due to embark on a European tour later this year. Her illness has prompted an outpouring of support from fans across the globe, many of whom have taken to social media to send messages of encouragement and hope for her recovery.

Career and Determination

Bonnie, whose distinctive voice and enduring career have made her one of Wales' most celebrated performers, previously spoke of her determination to continue performing despite slowing down her schedule.

Speaking to The Mirror last year, she said she had no intention of retiring from the music industry. "I started singing when I was 17 and I never thought I'd still be doing it at this age. I've slowed down a little bit, but I know now that I will never retire," she said.

Reflecting on the Covid-19 pandemic, Bonnie added: "Even though I was so lucky because I was in Portugal when the first lockdown was announced, by the end of it, I'd had enough. I was going crazy. I needed to get back out there on the road."
