A man has tragically died after suffering a serious medical emergency inside a busy Asda supermarket in Southampton.
Emergency Response at the Supermarket
The incident occurred at approximately 2:30pm on Tuesday, 23rd December 2025. Emergency services, including paramedics and police, swarmed the store on what was described as a "serious medical incident". Despite the rapid response from 999 crews, the man, who was in his 50s, could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shoppers Witness Tragic Scene
The man collapsed in front of other customers who were buying groceries. The sudden event left fellow shoppers horrified as they witnessed the emergency response unfold. Store staff are understood to have provided immediate assistance before the arrival of professional medical help.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed they attended the incident alongside South Central Ambulance Service. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

The local community has been left shocked by the sudden tragedy, especially so close to Christmas. An Asda spokesperson expressed the store's deep sadness, stating: "Our thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends at this very difficult time. We are supporting our colleagues who were on duty and assisted during the incident."
The supermarket remained closed for several hours while investigations were carried out, causing significant disruption during a peak shopping period. Counselling services have been offered to staff members who were present.
