Channel 4 has cancelled the BAFTA-nominated comedy Pushers after just one series, despite a leading actress nomination for co-writer and star Rosie Jones.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Jones said she had a "heavy heart" and was "immensely proud" of the show, which followed Emily, a young woman with cerebral palsy who turns to drug dealing after her disability benefits are cut. Emily recruits other disabled people to join her gang, selling cocaine from a charity where she works.
The six-part sitcom, which aired from 19 June to 3 July 2025, was developed by Jones with Peter Fellows, who also directed and co-wrote. It began as a Channel 4 short titled Disability Benefits in May 2022, before being expanded. The cast included Jon Furlong, Rhiannon Clements and Ruben Reuter.
A Channel 4 spokesperson said: "We're so proud of Pushers and would like to thank Rosie Jones, Peter Fellows, 2LE Media and Merman Television for their brilliant and dedicated work on the series. We look forward to working together on future projects." They added that the decision was part of a regular review of programming.
Jones was nominated for best leading actress in a comedy at the BAFTA Television Awards in March 2026, but lost to Katherine Parkinson for Here We Go. After the loss, Jones said she was still delighted to attend, describing the day as ending "in the best possible way: Crisps in bed."
