Just Stop Oil Activists Target Taylor Swift's Hotel

Climate activists from the Just Stop Oil group launched a dramatic protest in Manchester on Tuesday, targeting the luxury hotel where global superstar Taylor Swift is believed to be staying during her record-breaking Eras Tour.

Two protesters sprayed the entrance of The Lowry Hotel with bright orange paint from fire extinguishers in a stunt designed to draw attention to the singer's extensive use of private jets. The group explicitly linked the action to Swift's carbon footprint, labelling her a "climate criminal" for her travel habits.

Protesters Demand Action on Fossil Fuels

In a statement released after the incident, Just Stop Oil said: "Taylor Swift cannot be allowed to continue her lavish, high-emission lifestyle without consequence. We are in a climate emergency, and her excessive use of private jets is a slap in the face to those suffering from the effects of climate breakdown."

The group is demanding that the UK government commit to an immediate halt to all new fossil fuel licences and consents.

Swift's Carbon Emissions Under Scrutiny

The protest shines a harsh spotlight on the environmental impact of the music industry's biggest stars. In 2022, Swift's private jet usage was heavily scrutinised after data suggested her flights generated a staggering 8,293.54 tonnes of CO2, far exceeding the average person's annual output.

This incident follows a pattern of high-profile targeting by Just Stop Oil. The group has previously disrupted major sporting events, art galleries, and public ceremonies to force the climate crisis into public discourse.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they attended the scene and arrested two individuals on suspicion of criminal damage. The hotel has yet to make an official statement regarding the cleanup or the security breach.
