Award-Winning Survival Series Yellowjackets Now Free to Stream on ITVX

The award-winning survival thriller Yellowjackets has been made available to stream for free on ITVX, following fan reactions that included 'screaming, crying and throwing up' over its intense scenes. The series, which premiered on US network Showtime in 2021 and is also on Paramount+, follows a high school football team whose plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness.

Set in the 1990s, the show has won over 20 awards and received more than 100 nominations. It stars Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, and Juliette Lewis as the adult survivors, with younger versions played by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Sammi Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, and Liv Hewson. Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, known for Narcos, the story picks up 25 years after the crash.

Seasons one and two of Yellowjackets will be available on ITVX from February 15, making it the exclusive UK free-to-air destination for the series. ITV announced: 'The award-winning horror drama survival series Yellowjackets drops on ITVX next month.' The third season is currently airing, with a fourth in production.

Fans reacted strongly to the trailer for season three, which features bloody wilderness scenes. One viewer wrote on X: 'I can't breathe,' while another described the show as 'beautifully deranged'. The season three synopsis reads: 'As summer arrives, the Yellowjackets face a fragile victory... distrust in leadership and tension within the team jeopardise their chances of being rescued.'

Melanie Lynskey, who plays Shauna, commented on the cannibalism element, saying: 'I understand it's fascinating to people, [but] it's not what I typically lead with. It's also the least interesting thing to me.' The first season holds a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, while season two received 93 percent, though some critics felt the novelty had worn off.
