Martin Kemp's Gig Delayed After Lift Rescue in Falkirk

Eighties heartthrob Martin Kemp experienced an unexpected delay before his scheduled performance in Scotland over the weekend, after becoming trapped in a lift. The Spandau Ballet star was due to take the stage for a DJ set at the XOXO venue on Princes Street in Falkirk on Saturday evening, but the emergency situation forced his gig to be postponed by approximately one hour.

Emergency Rescue by Scottish Fire and Rescue

A crew from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched to the scene to assist Kemp and others stuck in the lift. The actor and musician, known for his roles in television and film as well as his music career, documented the incident by posting a video from inside the lift to his Instagram account. In the post, he expressed his gratitude, writing: 'Stuck in a lift for an hour!! Before tonight’s gig at City Falkirk… but I still had fun. Thank you so much Falkirk Fire Brigade for rescuing all of us!!!!'

Surprise for Rescue Crew

Gary McArthur, the crew commander at Slamannan Community Fire Station, later shared his surprise with the BBC. He explained that while his team is accustomed to responding to lift entrapment calls involving members of the public, they had no prior indication that Martin Kemp would be among those rescued. McArthur stated: 'Our crews are used to being called out to rescue members of the public who are stuck in lifts – but we had no idea when we managed to open the lift that Martin Kemp was going to be on the other side. We are glad Martin was still able to make it to his gig.'

Successful Performance Despite Delay

Following the rescue, Kemp proceeded to the XOXO venue where he eventually took the stage to perform his DJ set, featuring some of the biggest hits from the 1980s. The incident did not dampen the spirits of the event, as Kemp managed to deliver his performance to the waiting fans. This occurrence is part of his ongoing UK tour, which includes stops at various locations to celebrate the iconic music of that era.

The lift mishap added an unusual twist to the evening, highlighting the unpredictability of live events and the quick response of emergency services. Fans in Falkirk were treated to a memorable night, albeit with a slight delay, thanks to the efficient work of the fire brigade ensuring Kemp's safe arrival at the venue.
