Romy Mars, the 19-year-old daughter of acclaimed filmmaker Sofia Coppola, has publicly confronted persistent online rumours suggesting she underwent breast augmentation surgery.
A Viral Plea for Privacy
In a recent and deeply personal TikTok video, the teenager explained she felt compelled to address the speculation after noticing a flood of comments about her chest on a previous post. Mars admitted the topic was "deeply personal" and that the relentless gossip had made her extremely "uncomfortable." She firmly denied ever having any cosmetic procedures.
"I made a video a long time ago and I'm still getting comments on the video of people saying, 'Oh my God, those are new,' as in my boobs," she stated in the clip. After previously denying the claims, she was met with further disbelief from commenters. "I would just like to say, I'm a little disappointed in you guys," Mars expressed, highlighting her usual honesty online.
"My Breasts Are Not Plastic"
Mars directly challenged the inappropriate focus on her body, stressing her discomfort with people of all ages discussing her physique. "It makes me uncomfortable that adults and teenagers, no matter what the age, are saying my breasts are plastic. That makes me uncomfortable so please stop saying that," she urged her audience.
She categorically stated she has "never had any work done" in her life and has not even visited a plastic surgeon. Offering a natural explanation for the changes observers claimed to see, Mars said, "I just turned 19. Sometimes my boobs are big, they fluctuate. It's called the birth control pill, it's called being 19, it's called having the body I have."
Life in the Spotlight
The incident highlights the intense scrutiny faced by the offspring of celebrities, often dubbed 'nepo babies.' Romy, whose father is Thomas Mars of the band Phoenix, has carved her own path as a model, social media personality, and aspiring musician. She recently confirmed her romance with Miles Jebbia, the 18-year-old son of Supreme founder James Jebbia.
Currently a student at London's prestigious Central Saint Martins art college, Mars first gained viral attention in 2023 for a humorous TikTok about being grounded. She has since walked the red carpet at major events like the Chanel Couture Show in Paris and made her modelling debut for Marc Jacobs in 2020.
Her response underscores the challenging intersection of public life, personal autonomy, and the damaging culture of unsolicited commentary on women's bodies, even for those accustomed to fame from a young age.
