A teenage driver has been taken to hospital after a car left the A19 and crashed into a tree near Stockton. The incident occurred on Sunday shortly before noon when a black Mercedes left the northbound carriageway near Maltby, Stockton, and went down an embankment before hitting a tree.
Emergency Response
One lane of the A19 was closed as emergency services dealt with the incident, leading to lengthy traffic delays. The 17-year-old driver was rescued from the vehicle and taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Fire Brigade Statement
Cleveland Fire Brigade reported they were called at 11:57 am. A spokesperson said: "Road traffic collision involving one vehicle. Fire Brigade personnel extricated one person and handed them over to the North East Ambulance Service. Three fire engines were in attendance from Thornaby and Coulby Newham."
Police Statement
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "The driver, aged 17, of the vehicle was safely extricated from the vehicle and taken to James Cook University Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening."
Ambulance Service Statement
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on the A19 shortly after 11:50 am on June 14. We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance, a clinical team leader, one vehicle from our Hazardous Area Response Team, and were supported by the medical car from the Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital."
