Meghan Markle will not accompany Prince Harry when he returns to the UK next month, according to new reports. The Duke of Sussex is set to travel to Britain in July for a one-year-to-go event for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. However, his wife and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will remain behind.
Security Concerns Remain
Sources close to the Sussex camp had previously hinted that Prince Harry wished to bring his family back to the UK. But a new report from People magazine claims that security issues are once again the barrier. Speaking to the BBC in May 2025, Harry stated: “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.”
Last UK Visit in 2022
The last time the Sussex family visited the UK was in the summer of 2022 for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Since then, security concerns have kept them away. Prince Harry lost a legal challenge last year over the level of protection his family receives in the UK after stepping down as a working royal in 2020.
Home Office U-Turn
In December, the Home Office made a major U-turn, granting Harry a full risk assessment. Sources told the Daily Mail that Harry’s camp is cautiously optimistic that his request for full armed protection is “nailed-on” and “will be reinstated.” However, no final decision has been made yet.
Harry’s Hope for Reconciliation
Prince Harry has expressed a desire to reconcile with his family. He told the BBC: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”
