A violent altercation broke out in Liverpool city centre on Friday evening, resulting in a man being struck on the head with a walking stick and two arrests. Merseyside Police responded to reports of a fight involving two men on Great Charlotte Street shortly after 8:35 pm on June 12.
Incident Details
According to police, the confrontation began when one man threw a glass at another. The victim was then hit over the head with a walking stick. He was taken to hospital for treatment, where his condition is described as stable.
Officers cordoned off a section of Great Charlotte Street, near St John's Shopping Centre and Clayton Square, as forensic investigators examined the scene. Evidence markers were placed, and blood-stained tissues were collected from the ground.
Witness Accounts
Witnesses reported seeing a man "covered in blood" following the fight. One shopkeeper stated, "There was a big fight outside. I saw a man go past with blood all over his head." A security guard added, "It was just a fight. I saw a man and two others. One of the men was hit over the head." Another witness described hearing shouting and seeing men "going for each other."
Police Response
Numerous officers, police vehicles, and mounted police attended the scene. The Gym Group, located within the cordoned area, remained open with officers allowing members access.
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, and a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. Enquiries are ongoing.
