CCTV footage has captured a shocking street brawl in Stoke-on-Trent, during which a wheelie bin was used as a weapon. The violent confrontation occurred in broad daylight and involved multiple men, including Kahif Ahmed, Naveed Hussain, Bilal Ahmed, and Ali Abbas. The camera did not capture Kahif Ahmed being stabbed in the shoulder.
The brawl, which took place on December 16, 2021, sparked a retaliatory assault just seven hours later. At 10.55pm that evening, a gang descended on a property on Beverley Drive, Bentilee, demanding to speak with Naveed Hussain. The attackers smashed ground-floor windows and doused the entrance hallway with petrol near the front door and outside close to the lounge window.
A 31-year-old woman was hit on the head before being set alight. She sustained burns covering 65 per cent of her body and was not expected to survive, but miraculously she did. She remained in a coma for two months and now lives with life-altering injuries requiring ongoing medical care. A 13-year-old girl suffered burns to 15 per cent of her body, affecting her right arm and right leg. In a desperate bid to escape, both the woman and the girl smashed through an upstairs bedroom window and leapt out. The woman sustained a fractured pelvis, broken ribs, and a ruptured liver, and had to relearn how to walk.
Following an 11-week trial, four men were convicted of offences related to the arson and attempted murder. Ali Abbas, 22, and Haris Mahmood, 21, both of Normacot, pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life. Naveed Hussain, 32, of Longton, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and possession of a knife blade. Kashif Ahmed, 25, Bilal Ahmed, 26, and Ali Abbas also admitted violent disorder. All have been remanded in custody and are due to be sentenced at a date, time, and location yet to be confirmed.
