Speeding Mercedes Driver Crashes in Birmingham, Flees Scene After Narrowly Avoiding Tragedy
Speeding Mercedes Crash in Birmingham, Driver Flees Scene

A speeding Mercedes driver caused chaos on a residential street in Birmingham after losing control of the vehicle, smashing into two parked cars and a wall in front of horrified families. The incident, captured on video, shows a mother and her young child forced to run for cover as the car careened out of control on Wilton Road in Sparkhill.

Miraculous Escape for Pedestrian Hit by Vehicle

In a startling turn of events, a man was struck by the uncontrollable Mercedes but miraculously escaped serious injury. The footage reveals the Mercedes and an already damaged Audi speeding along narrow streets where children were walking. The Mercedes then collided with a wall and flipped over, pushing another vehicle into the man and causing him to be thrown to the ground from the impact.

Following the crash on Sunday, the man can be seen getting back to his feet, hobbling around while holding his leg. Meanwhile, the driver and passengers of the crashed car fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of destruction that included a downed lamppost.

Neighbour Describes Loud Bang and Community Response

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, described hearing a 'loud bang' that prompted 'everyone [to come] running out of their homes'. They added, 'There was one guy hurt but I think he was OK. It's a miracle that nobody was badly injured or killed.'

The neighbour speculated on the cause, stating, 'There were lots of people about. I don't know what happened but we believe one car was chasing the other, rather than racing, or they were both trying to get away from some trouble.' They concluded, 'Either way, it was a very nasty crash and I'm amazed everyone walked away. People drive like idiots around here and these are all narrow residential streets with lots of kids and families.'

Police Investigation Underway for Crash and Assault

West Midlands Police are now actively hunting the suspects involved in both the crash and an alleged assault on two men that occurred shortly before the collision. A spokesperson confirmed, 'We were called to Wilton Road, Sparkhill, shortly after 4.20pm on Sunday, after a vehicle crashed into parked vehicles and into the front wall of a property.'

The spokesperson detailed, 'One man, a pedestrian, received minor injuries. The occupants of the vehicle fled. Shortly before, an assault had taken place on two men by occupants of the vehicle involved in the collision.' Authorities are urging anyone with information to call 101, quoting crime number 20/172368/26, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 5555111.

Fire Service Response and Scene Safety

The West Midlands Fire Service also attended the scene, arriving to find a car that had collided with three parked vehicles. A spokesperson noted, 'Firefighters made the vehicles and scene safe, and we left the scene at 5.35pm, with police colleagues in attendance.' This coordinated effort helped secure the area and prevent further hazards in the wake of the dramatic incident.
