Around 30 properties have been evacuated in Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, after a gas main burst on Tevery Close. Emergency services, including four fire crews from Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, are at the scene, with roads closed and residents urged to avoid the area.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident is a gas leak, not an explosion as speculated on social media. No injuries have been reported. Cadent Gas is working to cap the leak, with an estimated two hours remaining, according to local councillor Sarah Camplin.
Councillor Camplin described the situation as “terrible and frightening” but praised the emergency response as “excellent”. She is liaising with the town council to open a community facility for evacuated residents to get refreshments.
Local councillor Richard MacRae stated that a community facility will be opened if needed, and procedures are in place to support residents. The Environment Agency and Nottinghamshire Police are also assisting at the scene.
Stapleford Fire Station reported that four fire crews and an environmental protection unit are dealing with the incident. Residents are advised to follow instructions from emergency services and avoid the area until further notice.
