The long-running BBC medical drama Casualty is injecting fresh talent into its Emergency Department this month, welcoming two new actors to its ensemble for its milestone 40th year on air.
Meet the New Faces in the ED
Audiences will be introduced to Jasmine Beyes, known for her role in ITV's Vera, who joins the cast as Kim, a doctor described as hesitant yet highly competent. Alongside her is Aron Julius, familiar to fans from Death in Paradise, who steps into the shoes of the charming Dr. Matty Linlaker.
Both new resident doctors are set to face significant personal and professional hurdles as they navigate the relentless pressures of the NHS frontline. Their arrival coincides with a turbulent time for the fictional Holby City Hospital.
A Hospital Under Pressure
The upcoming 12-episode series promises high drama, with the Emergency Department overwhelmed and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) conducting an inspection. Long-standing characters will be pushed to their limits.
Key storylines include Flynn (Olly Rix) and Siobhan (Melanie Hill) attempting to unite a fracturing team, while Faith (Kirsty Mitchell) and Iain (Michael Stevenson) confront new challenges in their relationship. Meanwhile, the romance between Cam (Barney Walsh) and Indie (Naomi Wakszlak) is set to intensify.
What the New Stars Have to Say
Discussing her new role, Jasmine Beyes expressed her delight: "I am delighted to be joining the ED alongside Aron for Casualty's 40th year. The journey Kim goes on is far from simple, and I hope audiences are prepared to follow her into some troubled waters."
Aron Julius shared his excitement, stating: "I am absolutely buzzing to be joining Casualty as Dr Matty Linlaker. It's a dream job - fast, fun and full of heart - and I can't wait for audiences to meet him. Saturday nights just got a little more chaotic."
How and When to Watch
The new series of Casualty begins on Saturday, January 10. Episodes will be available to stream from 6am on BBC iPlayer, with the traditional broadcast scheduled for 8.45pm on BBC One.
The central question for the new series remains: as the two new arrivals shake up the ED, will they adapt to the immense demands of the job, or will they fall at the first hurdle?
