Jealous Ex-Boyfriend Orchestrates Horrific Acid Attack, Then Mocks Victim as Horror Movie Villain
A jealous former boyfriend who allegedly orchestrated a brutal sulfuric acid attack on his ex-girlfriend then cruelly mocked her disfigured appearance by comparing her to horror movie villain Freddy Krueger, according to disturbing court revelations. Shaquille Coke, 31, of Brooklyn, New York, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault charges for his alleged role in the 2021 attack that left his ex-girlfriend, Nafiah Ikram, permanently scarred and blind in one eye.
Coordinated Assault Leaves Victim with Life-Altering Injuries
Prosecutors allege that Coke and his alleged co-conspirator, Terrell Campbell, 29, also of Brooklyn, threw 70 percent sulfuric acid on Ikram outside her Long Island home. The highly corrosive substance, commonly found in lead-acid batteries, caused devastating second and third-degree burns to her face, arms, wrists, shoulders, right eye, and esophagus. Ikram collapsed on the pavement in excruciating pain as the acid penetrated her throat and eye.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly described Coke as a "jealous, possessive, and jilted former boyfriend" who believed Ikram had been unfaithful during their brief relationship in 2020-2021. "The attack was meant to terrorize her. It was meant to mutilate and humiliate her," Donnelly stated emphatically.
Vile Post-Attack Harassment and Mockery
In a particularly cruel twist, prosecutors allege that after the attack, Coke created a fake Snapchat account to harass the victim further. He reportedly sent vile messages and specifically mocked her injuries by calling her Freddy Krueger, the disfigured antagonist from A Nightmare on Elm Street whose character was burned alive, leaving horrific facial scars.
Ikram, an aspiring doctor and pre-med student, expressed shock at learning of her ex-boyfriend's arrest in March 2026—exactly five years after the attack. "I'm trying to just decompress and figure out how I'm feeling emotionally, so that's all I can say right now," she told reporters, according to NBC New York.
Painful Recovery and Ongoing Medical Challenges
The attack has left Ikram with a long, painful journey of recovery that continues five years later. She has undergone multiple surgeries, battled infections, required skin grafts, and needs regular esophageal dilation procedures to eat and breathe normally. Additionally, she suffers from limited vision in her remaining eye, with prosecutors noting the profound physical and emotional toll.
"The past five years have not been easy on this young woman," Donnelly acknowledged. "She survived the attack, but that was the beginning of a long, painful journey of recovery filled with unanswered questions. We were finally able to provide her with some answers."
Alleged Co-Conspirator's Brazen Behavior
Campbell, accused of actually throwing the cup of acid on Ikram, allegedly brazenly used the attack to further his aspiring rap career. Prosecutors revealed he posted a song called Obsidian to YouTube in 2023 under his rap name YungBasedPrince, with lyrics including: "I'm discreet in the night, like a hitman assassin" and "Try to run up and have your face burning, acid."
Nassau County prosecutors ridiculed this behavior, stating Campbell "brazenly used the attack as material to further his rap career, publishing a video with lyrics that neatly fit the narrative of the crime."
Evidence Gathering and Legal Proceedings
Investigators pieced together the case through phone records, text messages, and community assistance. Surveillance footage of a red Nissan proved crucial, with community members identifying Campbell as regularly driving the vehicle under a family member's name due to license violations.
Cell phone evidence revealed disturbing searches on Campbell's device, including "sulfuric acid remover," "sulfuric acid on car seat," "can you recover from sulfuric acid burn," and "acid attack Franklin Square Long Island."
Both Coke and Campbell have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Coke allegedly served as the getaway driver and made vague statements to police about wanting something "devastating" to happen to Ikram. If convicted, each faces up to 25 years in prison for their alleged roles in this calculated, cruel attack that has permanently altered a young woman's life.
